If a Tree Falls...

Much better! This painting was always too blah for me. More oranges and yellows in the background have livened it up and I like it a lot more. :)

This past year has been a very exciting one for me artistically. I was juried into the Federation of Canadian Artists in May and have a piece accepted into their juried show Sept. 17 and 18. An injury this summer kept me off my bike and in front of an easel the whole time. What a blessing it was! It was a very productive summer and I now have work at the Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre as well as Crystal Ridge Golf Course.

School's back in so I will keep painting at a much slower pace but watch for news of other shows. I plan on becoming more active in professional art organizations.

The Three Sisters

I painted this using pastels alongside Andrew Kiss at his workshop in oils. He reminded me that lots of colour is a good thing and that a landscape doesn't have to be simplistic to be inviting and relaxing. I might even try more landscapes :).

Book 2! Here we go again!

NFS

This book will be full of children showing different emotions. These are two of my first paintings! Do they look shy and secretive?

Fall Reflections

Is the little mound on the left too distracting because there's no harmony with the rest of the picture?

African Dancers (2)

I wasn't happy with this painting when I did it originally. I knew I wanted the dancers in the background to be less distinct than the one in the foreground but I didn't paint them that way. This time I applied some absorbent ground and watered down the colour. Now I'm much happier with the effect.

African Dancers

Kassy

I have used claybord before but only for florals and that's not my favorite subject matter. So, I thought claybord was not my favorite support but I loved it for this little portrait and can't wait to try it BIG! Unfortunately it is a little pricey so big might have to wait.
